Sells' letter forms part of the orchestrated propaganda campaign that portrays Serbs as genocidal Jew haters. The line appears also in, P. J. Cohen's book [who is the ghost writer?], and in its series predecessor, that of Norman Cigar, himself longtime publicist on such subjects as the enormously bankrolled infrastructure of Saudi Arabia etc.(See his list of publications.) I'm sure No[rman] Cigar's projects are all PRO BONO.
We read all about it in the papers when synagogues and Afro-American churches are desecrated or torched in the USA, but rarely when Serb Orthodox churches are targeted, which is frequently. The same has not befallen mosques and Croatian parishes. A cub reporter chatting with local police forces could get all the information.
Serb scorn for their kinsmen who embraced Islam is not unique, as Sells disingenuously contends, but par for the course. Everyone does it. There is a direct Irish match for a relevant Serb saying, "prodao je veru za veceru" ('he sold his faith for a supper'). The Irish still say of a turncoat, "he took the soup": during the British genocide of the Irish known euphemistically as "the Famine" anyone who converted to Protestantism for a bowl of soup was dubbed a "souper" .
Serbian anti-semitism is like Irish anti-semitism or Italian anti-semitism in 1996, a faint, bloodless echo of standard medieval preaching. When my father uttered ethnic slurs on seeing a Jewish commentator on the TV, I took this with a grain of salt, since I knew that he, as many Americans, could not differentiate between Germans and Ashkenazi Jews, and don't know about any other kind. On our street were many Jewish families. There was never any face-to-face vituperation, no synagogue desecration. The wake of Mrs. Riger was attended by all: Protestant, "Greek Catholic", and Roman Catholic. I managed as often as I could to walk the Rigers' beautiful daughter to school. (Noting this, Mr. Riger once asked in genuine paternal concern if I really wanted, as I had told his daughter, to become a Catholic priest. I wish my father had been able to so counsel me, but his submissiveness to the Roman Church discipline would not let him.)
Irish American anti-semitism: my father's father was approached around the turn of the century by a Jewish business man to go into partnership with him. Grampa turned him down on the basis of the man's religion. My mother,an immigrant in 1909 from Ireland, always muttered in disbelief at that stupidity, more American than Irish. My brothers and sisters could have been co-heirs to "Levene & Maher Scrap Iron" business, which was never to be. But Mr. Levene did all right without Mr. Maher.
Now then, Mr. Sells echoes Dr. Cohen, who has been "informed" about the anti-semitism of Serb Bishop Velimirovic, overlooking that his "anti-Semitic" speech was delivered from a Dachau cell, with perhaps a little prompting from someone behind him. The Serb was not saying anything that had not been being preached, especially on Good Friday, for ages in all churches. I am a goy who has on occasion darkened the door of a synagogue. I have even written, which is not kosher, a Bar Mitzvah speech for a neighbor boy who was having trouble in composing the speech for his rite de passage..
In Jewish sermons about Christ and Christians, there is a distaste for Jesus and Christians that mirrors the Christian reproaches to the Jews for rejecting Jesus:
In Jewish eyes Jesus Christ is a fraud, and Christians are dupes. Millions have heard this with their own ears over many centuries. --After what has been done to the Jews, I can't blame them. However, today Jewish organizations, of all people, are prominent in the pogrom against the Serbs. John Ranz, Yohanan Ramati,Nora Beloff, and many other informed Jews agree with me that, after the ad "Stop the Death! Camps" [of Brcko and Omarska], created by accused spooks, and orchestrated, according to Jacques Merlino, Ruder Finn, PR peddlers for the rich and infamous, the Anti-Defamation League should drop the "Anti" from their letter head.
The Serbs are the New Jews. It is not salonfaehig today to bash Blacks and Jews, but every liberal calls for Serb lands to be carpet-bombed. What I call "war" the State Department calls "the peace process", and Papa Woytila and his cardinals call it "stopping aggression" and as in the World Wars they bless the weapons that kill children and farmers, and even aggressor cows.
Martin Luther was savage in his Jew-hating. I've even heard about something called the "ghetto". The Jews of Italy were forced to rally and stand for hours to listen to sermons haranguing them to repent for murdering Jesus and convert to the True Religion. Those who did would avail themselves on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, for this sin forced on them. -- As an altar boy in an Irish-American Catholic (pardon the redundancies) church, and as master of ceremonies in a Catholic seminary, I heard and will never forget the Good Friday IMPROPERIA 'reproaches' aimed at the Christ Killers. -- Pope Paul VI some years ago came to New York City, home to the largest Jewish community in the world, and stupidly chose for his gospel reading the text of John XX.19:
"Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews..."
