KOSOVO FACTS
- In a recent interview with Charlie Rose on 4/12/99, Henry Kissinger said
that there had been 2000 deaths (both Serbian and Albanian) in Kosovo over
the last year - prior to the NATO bombing. He said that, although that was
not good - it was to be expected given the history of terrorism and fighting
between the Albanian terrorists and the Serbian police. (Transcript
available at www.800-ALL-NEWS.com)
- The Rambouillet agreement written by NATO to solve this problem required a
complete surrender of Kosovo to NATO military troops who would have
unrestricted access to all air, water, and land facilities in the FRY while
not being accountable to Yugoslavian law (Appendix B:
http://www.suc.org/kosovo_crisis/documents/)
- According to Richard Holbrooke who was interviewed on the Charlie Rose show
on 4/6/99, the Rambouillet agreement was delivered to Yugoslavia as an
ultimatum - either sign this or we will bomb your country. (Transcript
available at www.800-ALL-NEWS.com)
- The NATO bombing of Yugoslavia broke International Law and side-stepped the
role of the United Nation's security council to approve any military action
against a soveirgn nation (www.un.org/geninfo/ir/charter/charter.htm)
- NATO bombed Yugoslavia as they were in the process of discussing NATO's new
charter from being defensive in nature - to offensive
(http://www.unausa.org/issues/sc/399rtables.htm)
- The Role of the Tribunal in Hague is to investigate war crimes such as
genocide and atrocities. By continuing the bombing and not allowing the
United Nations to have a presence in Kosovo - NATO is not only impeding that
process - but they are also allowing any possible war crimes to continue.
The peace proposal introduced by Yugoslavia and Russia yesterday would allow
for this international presence.
- Kosovo was given its autonomy in 1945 by Tito in order to weaken Serbia
- NATO charter states that it's a defensive alliance. NATO doesn't have
the legal right to take offensive action against a sovereign non-NATO
country.
- Serbs have no objection in giving Kosovo Albanians autonomy as long as it remains a part of Yugoslavia (FRY). However, the Rambouillet Peace Agreement provided the Kosovo Albanians a referendum after 3 years of autonomy within FRY, giving the Albanians of Kosovo a legal right to secede and later merge with Albania.
- The October an agreement between the Serbian president Milosevic and Richard Holbrok has been broken and NATO was building up troops to intervene in Yugoslavia.
- Comparissons between Milosevic and Hitler are not realistic since Milosevic has never attacked any of his neighbours. AT the time of the war in Bosnia, Croatia and Slovenia, these republics were part of Yugoslavia (SFRJ). They were not invaded but chose to secede militarily from SFRJ. Both the U.S. and Germany were both signatories of the Helsinki Accords. So why did the U.S. and Germany "convince" the remaining NATO counties to recognize the illegal secession of Bosnia, Croatia and Slovenia? Serbs living in these 3 republics one day found themselves living in a country they didn't choose to live in and had no say.
- Albanian persecution of Serbs in Kosovo was brought to the
attention of the UN in the 1980's but the UN concluded that Kosovo is a
part of Yugoslavia and any problems in Kosovo are an internal matter.
Serbs live in Kosovo since the 7th century. They formed their
first Kingdom there in the 10th century. Since then, Kosovo is the spiritual
center of Serbdom. There are more than 1200 monasteries and churches in
Kosovo.
- Senator Pat Roberts, head of the Senate Intelligence commitee,
stated that the US has concrete proof that the KLA is known to have ties
with Osama bin Laden, to be "extremely" communist and to be involved in drug
trafficing.
- Many Serbs civilians and clergy are fleeing form the NATO bombing and fighting between the KLA and the Yugoslav security forces in Kosovo.
- After the NATO bombing started, Hachim Taqi (indicted for the murder of a police officer), head of the KLA, has asked Albanians to leave Kosovo for neighbouring countries.
- Birthrate of Albanians in Kosovo has been the highest in Europe. At
present rate they would become a majority in Yugoslavia in 20 years.
The biggest silver mining in Europe is located in Kosovo.
- Kosovo is the issue of sovereignty, not of autonomy.

"The other central issue at stake in the case is the rewriting of history.
For five years, the misleading ITN pictures of emaciated Bosnian Muslims apparently encircled
by a barbed wire fence at Trnopolje camp have been used around the world as the proof that the
Bosnian Serbs ran Nazi-style 'concentration camps', or 'death camps' as Pulitzer prizewinner
Roy Gutman called them."

"The events in the Kosovo village of Racak marked the beginning of the year. The stories from
the Sarajevo marketplace of Markale and from Vase Miskina Street were repeated. The scenario
was almost completely identical. The Serbs need to be accused of misdeeds and a massacre of
civilians in order to find justification for their renewed punishment. In the first two cases,
the world learned the truth too late, only after the Serbs had already been punished for
something that they did not do. In the hope that we have learned something from previously lost
battles in the media war, we have prepared for the readers of LID a special report, "The Racak
File", in which we will attempt, on the basis of sources available to us, to unmask the
initiators behind the new conspiracy against the Serbian people."
